Trista Sorenson

Sister. Friend. Cat and dog guardian. Therapist. Not in any particular order. But that’s partly who I am and what I do. We are all many different things. We have many different feelings. We have many different issues. And we address them (or not) in different ways. We are a handful, and sometimes we need someone else to help figure things out. My approach is simple: get personal. With an eclectic academic and professional background, I am committed to helping people through a method specific to their needs. I’m here to counsel, and counseling isn’t a “one size fits all” when you have a lot of different people with different issues and different responses to those issues.

When a person experiences trauma or a severe life stressor, life may seem like it is unraveling. It is my passion to prevent the fabric of one’s life from further unraveling. It is my intention to help that person sew the unraveled threads back together through therapy. We do it together in a way that is appropriate and in accordance with specific needs of that person. That is why I have been trained in a range of modalities: cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, gestalt therapy, person-centered therapy, and humanism. I counsel people from all backgrounds, including children, adults and families. It is my moral code that we don’t ever stop trying to be better people, to understand ourselves better, and to address concerns in our lives in a healthy manner so that we are whole, complete, and safe.

My educational background includes a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, and a dual B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I am a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor. I believe that we are constantly changing, whether for the better or the worse. I want it to be for the better, and that goes for myself. I want to better myself on a personal and professional level. I regularly attend workshops that help me keep a healthy mind, approach situations from different perspectives and angles, and provide optimal services to my clients.
